The stars of the night sky are distant suns, tens or hundreds of light-years away — but the "planets" wandering among them are our neighbors, circling the same Sun. Unlike stars, they shine steadily rather than twinkling, and drift among the stars night by night, which is why the ancients called them "wandering stars."
